Join us at Center Court at The Mall in Columbia as we celebrate 35 years of song at our first Singathon, Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 1-3 pm. The event is both a friend-raiser and a fundraiser for the chorus. Stop by and hear the music that has made Columbia Pro Cantare a beloved arts institution in our community for more than three decades. It’s fun and it’s free!

How CPC got its start
In February 1977, Frances Motyca Dawson founded Columbia Pro Cantare as a professionally trained volunteer chorus to sing with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at its Howard County concerts. When the BSO moved its outdoor venue to another county, CPC struck out on its own, presenting high quality performances of choral masterpieces to receptive local audiences.

Throughout its 35-year history, CPC has garnered acclaim for its compelling performances of a broad range of choral works. In addition to choral classics by masters like Handel, Mozart, and Brahms, CPC has presented concerts that feature the contributions of diverse cultures to the vocal repertoire, including programs of Czech, Polish, and Latin-American works, spirituals, folk music, jazz, and more than a dozen world premieres.

CPC has not only enriched the lives of our audiences over the past 35 years, it has served as a creative outlet for the many talented singers who reside in the area.
